One UI 6.1.1 Introduces a Universal Trash Can, Bridging the Gap Between Mobile and Desktop OS

Samsung is refining the One UI experience yet again with One UI 6.1.1, making it feel closer to a desktop operating system. One of the standout features is a new universal trash can within the My Files app, which simplifies how users manage deleted files across multiple Samsung apps.

A Smarter Approach to File Deletion

Previously, each Samsung app with a delete function — such as Gallery, Samsung Notes, or Voice Recorder — maintained its own trash can (or Recycle Bin, depending on your region). These individual trash cans are helpful, allowing users to recover mistakenly deleted files and auto-empty over time to free up storage.

However, managing deleted files across multiple apps could become cumbersome. For instance, if you’re unsure where a file was deleted, you’d need to check each app’s trash can separately.

The One UI 6.1.1 Solution: Universal Trash Can

With One UI 6.1.1, Samsung’s My Files app introduces a universal trash can, consolidating all deleted files from every Samsung app in one place. Here’s how it works:

  1. Accessing the Universal Trash Can: Open the My Files app, scroll to the Utilities section, and tap Trash (or Recycle Bin).
  2. Unified Deletion Management: This universal trash can displays all files sent to trash across different apps, making it easy to track and manage them.
  3. Streamlined Recovery and Cleanup: Users can now delete all files permanently or recover them in one go, saving time and effort.

Desktop-Like Functionality

This new feature aligns with the trash can functionality found in desktop operating systems like Windows Recycle Bin or macOS Trash. It doesn’t replace or alter individual app trash cans but rather complements them, offering an additional layer of convenience.

With this update, One UI 6.1.1 takes another step toward bridging the gap between mobile and desktop experiences, offering users more control and a smarter workflow.
