Wishlist for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: What We Want to See

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 has already made significant improvements over its predecessor, offering a more refined hinge, reduced crease visibility, and better overall performance. However, there are always areas for enhancement. Here’s what I hope to see in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, based on my experience with the device and insights from recent trends.

1. A Bigger and Better Cover Screen

The cover screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has evolved since the original Flip, but there’s still room for improvement. While the Flex Window offers more functionality than its predecessors, it’s still somewhat limited. Currently, users can access widgets, and with the Good Lock software and MultiStar plugin, it’s possible to use full apps, though the experience is buggy and unreliable.

To improve, a larger cover screen would be ideal, potentially providing more usable space for widgets and maybe even creating special versions of core apps like messaging or browsing. Although a full Android experience on the cover screen may not be feasible, a bigger display could offer a much more functional and user-friendly interface.

2. Faster Charging Speeds

While the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is an impressive device, one feature that remains a sore spot is its slow charging speed. In 2024, when devices like the OnePlus 12 can charge at speeds up to 80W, the 25W charging speed on the Flip feels inadequate. It’s time for Samsung to catch up with the competition.

A 45W charging speed, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, would make a significant difference. Faster charging would be a game-changer for users, especially those who rely on their devices for daily tasks and need quicker recharge times.

3. Introducing a Telephoto Lens

The camera setup on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is good, but it doesn’t match the quality of more traditional flagships. To improve, I’d love to see better zoom capabilities, and a telephoto lens would be the perfect addition. While Samsung’s software does a decent job with zooming, having a dedicated telephoto lens would take the camera experience to the next level.

Even though the Flip series may never compete with the high-end camera systems of flagship devices, adding a telephoto lens would make it a more versatile option for those who care about zoomed-in shots.

4. More Than One Model Option

Samsung has recently shown interest in diversifying its foldable phone lineup, and I believe the Galaxy Z Flip series could benefit from more than just one model. Right now, every Flip model comes with certain compromises, such as slower charging, smaller batteries, and weaker cameras compared to flagship devices.

Samsung should consider releasing both cheaper and more expensive alternatives within the Flip series. For instance, an affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE could provide a more budget-friendly option with fewer features, while a Galaxy Z Flip 7 Ultra could offer flagship-level features, including faster charging, better cameras, and premium materials.

5. A Free Hinge/Display Warranty

One of the ongoing issues with foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip series, is their fragility, particularly with the hinge and display. Despite improvements in durability, foldables are still prone to wear and tear. A warranty that covers free repairs for the hinge or screen would give users peace of mind, especially those who are concerned about the long-term durability of their devices.

While a lifetime warranty may be too much to ask, even one free repair or replacement during the phone’s lifespan would go a long way in boosting consumer confidence.

6. When Will the Galaxy Z Flip 7 Arrive?

As of now, it’s too early to know the exact details of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, based on past trends, we can expect the Flip 7 to launch in the summer of 2025, following the same general timeline as previous models.

7. Should You Wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 7?

If you’re considering a foldable phone, there’s no need to wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is already one of the best smart flip phones on the market, offering excellent build quality, a solid dual-camera setup, and an impressive software experience. While the Flip 7 may bring incremental improvements, the current Z Flip 6 is already a highly polished device that doesn’t fall short in performance.
